Case Study 1:Project H lraq

Major Carbonates Reservoirs with Water Flooding - Water Breakthrough Challenge

  • It has been a success story for CNPC as operator: successfully ramped up production as planned during the 3 phases development through technology application, detailed reservoir characterization and enormous dedication overcoming various operational difficulties.

  • CNPC R&D is going to contribute to the field development optimization through supporting the implementation of the international best practices, including Stage Gated FDP process with focus on subsurface uncertainty management, Quality Assurance and Quality Control System, supplemented by structured Stakeholder Engagement and Decision Based studies and planning.

Case Study 2: Project Y Iraq

Develop a blueprint for Middle Eastern Carbonates Reservoir for Efficient Development of Abnormal High-Pressure, Sour, and Light Oil.

Reservoir with complex geological characteristics such as deeply buried, light oil, abnormal high pressure, sour, CO2, presence of bitumen precipitation, strong heterogeneity.

Project subdivided into 6 subjects covering geology, reservoir, drilling, completion, surface and geo-engineering economic integration.

  • Subject 1:

Research on the description of large deep carbonate reservoirs and reserve classification and evaluation methods

  • Subject 2:

Study on the seepage pattern of anomalous high-pressure acidic light reservoir and methods to improve the recovery rate

  • Subject 3:

Study on the optimization of large platform well placement and trajectory in deep acidic carbonate reservoirs

  • Subject 4:

Study on reservoir modification and completion optimization of long well section in deep carbonate rocks

  • Subject 5:

Optimization of surface gathering pipeline network and corrosion protection for deep abnormal high-pressure acidic oil fields

  • Subject 6:

Reservoir-Wellbore-Surface Integration Study on economic safety optimization for deep abnormal high-pressure acidic light Carbonate Reservoirs

Case Study 3: Project (Oman)

Technologies Deployment for Water Control and Production Enhancement

Production ramp up 10 times since CNPC’s participation through detailed reservoir characterization, implementation of horizontal well development concept and optimized water flooding

CNPC R&D is leading the preparation of the new technologies developed by CNPC are being prepared, like multi-stage acid fracturing, C-AICD smart water control tools and Chemical water-shutoff materials etc.
